Acupuncture and Cupping Therapy

Treat your pain, move stagnant blood, promote relaxation, and boost your immune system!

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a complete medical protocol focused on correcting imbalances of energy in the body. It is a wonderful alternative or addition to Western medicine and pharmaceutical drugs.

Holistic Health Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida strives to help you feel symptom-free and energized, and to improve your overall health
and well-being.

Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, injection therapy, cupping, and moxibustion not only have a history of thousands of years of practice with abundant clinical knowledge but also have modern clinical relevance as far as having a wide range of indications, good curative effect, safe usage, and minimal side effects.

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy, or qi, in the body. Some research has shown that it is possible that acupuncture works through neurohormonal pathways. This means that you put the acupuncture needle into specific points on the body.

This then stimulates the nerve pathways so that the body can begin to heal. Acupuncture involves stimulation of anatomical locations on the body by penetrating the skin with thin, solid metallic needles, which are manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation.

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Acupuncture needles are flexible and thin as hair, and you will hardly feel them when inserted. When manipulated with ease, the needles may produce a unique sensation that Chinese medicine calls de qi. We often call it “getting the Qi.”

Patients often describe this as a heavy or spreading sensation. You may also feel an “electrical” sensation moving through the meridian pathways. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.

What Does Acupuncture Do?

Acupuncture promotes blood flow, stimulates the body’s healing mechanisms and promotes the release of natural analgesics (pain killers). It reduces the intensity and perception of chronic pain, relaxes muscle fibers, and reduces stress.

How Many Treatments

Will I Need?

The healing qualities of acupuncture are cumulative, meaning that more than one treatment is almost always necessary. For acute conditions, you can expect to have 6 to 10 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after 1 or 2 sessions.

In the case of chronic conditions, it may take longer to feel a healing response, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

What Is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy boosts the immune system by moving blood and fluid in areas that may be stagnant or in a state of disease. As the lymphatics begin to flow, symptoms of illness, such as cold, flu, allergies, etc. may begin to subside. When you relieve pressure by lifting muscle and increasing blood flow, the body begins to relax.

This deep relaxation initiates the nervous system, and it responds by creating a sense of peace and relaxation. Boosting the immune system in this specific way helps treat the common cold and flu by opening up the lungs and encouraging blood flow to the vital organs.

Cupping Therapy Benefits

  • Pain and Injury Relief/Muscle Spasms
  • Cold, Flu, and Allergy Relief
  • Induces and Promotes Relaxation
  • Detoxifying
  • Skin Conditions
  • Digestive Issues
  • Anti-Aging

Cupping, when applied to pain points and places of inflammation, focuses on soft tissue with a gentle pressure. This initiates blood flow to the area and influences oxygen and healing at a cellular level. Cupping relieves stiffness, neck and back pain, chronic and acute conditions, arthritis, and even headaches and migraines.

Cupping has been very successful in improving skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, eczema, rashes, and even cellulite. Cups may be applied throughout the body on the legs, back, and even the face. Sometimes, oil is used before the cups are applied and they are moved during the treatment.

This is referred to as moving cupping therapy. Cupping therapy is also used to create an anti-aging effect because the motions help relax facial muscles and move stuck lymphatic fluid, creating a look of lift and glow!

Does Cupping Therapy Really Work?

From a holistic perspective, pain and illness stems from stagnation in the body. Stagnation causes blocks, and blockages cause congestion and feelings of heaviness or general malaise. This then results in a stagnation or blockage of Qi, lymphatic, and other vital fluids, blood and more.

A result of stagnation and blockages is either physical body pain or mental emotion pain, such as depression, insomnia, PTSD, etc. We use cupping therapy in conjunction with acupuncture, herbal medicine prescriptions, laser therapy, homeopathic injection therapy, among other techniques.
